This chapter focuses on the influence of Mickey Mouse on Australian everyday life for almost 50 years, beginning with the establishment of MacRobertson-Miller Airlines (MMA) in 1927, which became known as “Mickey Mouse Airlines” after his creation in 1928, and ending in 1977 with the coronation of Mickey Mouse as the King of Moomba. Other things discussed in this chapter include Mickey Mouse’s appearance in a 1931 documentary about Antarctica; the kerfuffle over Astor Mickey Mouse radios, which ended up in the High Court of Australia in 1937; the multiple marriages of Mickey and Minnie Mouse throughout the 1930s; Mickey Mouse on radio in the 1930s and on television in the 1950s; and the Mouseketeers’ tours of Australia in 1959 and 1960. It is worth noting that the parents of the children who watched Mickey Mouse on television in the 1950s were the children who listened to him on the radio in the 1930s, illustrating the character’s appeal across different generations.
