We delve into various remote-sensing technologies, focusing on satellite imagery as an indispensable tool in the early detection and monitoring of oil spills. The chapter elaborates on the principles and methodologies of image-processing techniques, such as image segmentation, feature extraction, classification, and change-detection algorithms. It illustrates how these techniques are tailored for oil-spill scenarios in Egypt’s unique geographic and marine environment.
