SACE Framework from Research on Practice
摘要
Equity is presented as a lens for re-seeing the new teacher mentoring/induction literature and newcomer socialization. The enduring structure of mentoring/induction and its components—support, accessibility, and collaboration (SAC)—bypasses equity, thus SAC is re-visioned as SACE: support–accessibility–collaboration–equity. Arising from critical theorizing, this is the name I gave to an original framework applied to school-based mentoring/induction for centering equity within practices of SAC. SACE illuminates equity’s role in transforming newcomer professional development and learning. The pressing need to retain quality educators who like their job and improve learning outcomes for diverse student groups are reasons for implementing equitable mentoring/induction in schools. Equity serves as a foundational guide for shaping formal mentoring/induction that is equitable and effective. This chapter’s topics are SACE is more than SAC, the “E” in SACE for equity, SAC and SACE graphics, making newcomer mentoring/induction work, and folding mentoring into equity audits. To inspire learning, conversation starters and reflective activities are included.
