This chapter presents the development and application of the DIAGONAL Decision Support SystemDecision Support System (DSS) (DSSDecision Support System (DSS)) within the Enalos Cloud PlatformCloud platform, aimed at managing the risks associated with nanomaterialsNanomaterials (NMs). The necessity for such a system arises from the unique properties of NMs which traditional risk assessmentRisk assessment methods inadequately address. The DIAGONAL DSSDecision Support System (DSS) is designed to standardise NM risk assessmentRisk assessment, ensuring regulatory compliance and alignment with industry best practices. The system integrates diverse data sources to form a comprehensive risk assessmentRisk assessment framework. It facilitates decision-making by simulating various scenarios and predicting outcomes based on different inputs, thereby supporting proactive risk management. The DSSDecision Support System (DSS) also incorporates Safe-by-Design (SbDSafe-by-Design (SbD)) principles, embedding safety considerations directly into the developmental stages of high aspect ratio nanomaterialsNanomaterials (HARNsHigh Aspect Ratio Nanomaterials (HARNs)) and multi-component nanomaterialsNanomaterials (MCNMsMulti-component Nanomaterials (MCNMs)). The DSSDecision Support System (DSS) employs a Control BandingControl banding approach to estimate hazard and exposure bandsExposure bands, which are then combined to determine the overall risk band. This method integrates functionalities from various models and platforms, such as COSHH Essentials and Stoffen manager nano, to provide a robust and adaptable risk management toolRisk management tool. Through its modular architectureModular architecture, the Enalos Cloud PlatformCloud platform ensures scalability and user-centric design, enhancing accessibility for regulatory bodies, industry participants, and academic institutions.
