As the scale of resource development such as shale gas and geothermal energy continues to expand, induced earthquakes caused by fluid injection have been a topic of active research. The study of characteristics, mechanisms and maximum possible magnitude of induced earthquakes is of great significance for the induced earthquake prevention, risk assessme and disaster reduction strategy formulation. This article reviews the global typical cases of induced earthquakes during resource development, and provides a comprehensive overview of the main manner, physical mechanism and related parameters of induced earthquakes by fluid injection. The study indicates that the maximum possible magnitude of induced earthquakes, which is affected by fluid injection parameters, is determined by geological conditions such as fault size and stress state. According to actual situation of global resource development, this paper proposes three technical measures to reduce or avoid induced earthquakes disasters.

摘要
