Does Early Postoperative Ambulation Improve Surgical Outcomes After Esophagectomy?
摘要
Esophagectomy remains the cornerstone in curative treatment of carcinoma of the esophagus. Standardization of surgery with incorporation of minimally invasive approaches and enhanced recovery programs have aided in significant reduction of postoperative morbidity. Early mobilization after major surgery has been advocated with theoretical benefits and is one of the key components in the enhanced recover after surgery (ERAS) pathways. Initial data shows the possibility of safe implementation of these protocols with variable adherence to them and with a probable reduction of pulmonary complications and unclear advantage in reduction of intensive care days and duration of hospital stay.
