The Influence of Printing Positioning on Surface Roughness Parameters Obtained by SLS Technology for PA12 Material

This article aims to investigate the influence of specimen positioning on surface roughness parameters fabricated using Selective Laser Sintering (SLS). All specimens were produced using the specialized Fuse 1 machine. The material used for the specimens is PA12 (Nylon12). The specimens were positioned at orientations ranging from horizontal (0°) to vertical (90°) for both the front and rear surfaces during testing. The surface texture of the tested specimens was characterized according to ISO 4288 and ISO 4287 standards. The roughness measurement direction on each specimen is in three directions with the Mitutoyo Surface Roughness Measuring Instrument and according to ISO 3274 standard. The results of this research show that the position of the specimen significantly affects the roughness parameter Ra values. Front surface of specimens has better surface quality compared to the rear surface of the specimen, which has higher roughness. The surface of all specimens is general uniform, where the direction of roughness measurement having no significant effect on the Ra parameter values.
