The transportation industry is undertaking electrification as one of the most important strategies for cutting down CO2 emissions toward achieving the 2050 Net Zero emission goals. In aerospace transportation systems, the reduction of the mass of an aircraft and the improvement of its efficiency by electrification offer the most impactful environmental benefits by cutting down fuel burn and emissions [1–3]. Electrification of aircraft is a major enabler for the realization of new system architectures of the vehicles that can achieve significant reduction in mass and fuel consumption [2–4]. Besides the positive environmental benefits, electrification of aircraft is also a key enabler for achieving reduced maintenance, increased safety and reliability, and reduced product development effort, which in turn result in overall cost reduction of the flights [4].
