Modern society depends on enormous generation, transfer, and storage of data, in the form of text, images, video, sound, and various other forms of storage formats. The data centers that process and store this data in turn require ever increasing electric power, which must be efficiently and reliably converted from the high-voltage ac form to the low-voltage dc form required by modern digital loads. From hard disk drives (HDDs) to random access memory (RAM) and central processing units (CPUs) and graphics processing units (GPUs), dc voltages in the range of 0.6–5 V are the most power hungry loads. In this chapter, we focus on innovative power electronics solutions dedicated to serve a large number of homogeneous digital loads, such as disk storage units (HDDs).

摘要
