Energy storage is a key enabling technology for greater integration of intermittent renewable energy generation into the grid. Wind and solar energy generation is being relied upon more and more to meet greater demand for electricity while reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Government policies increasingly require that renewable and zero-carbon energy resources supply up to 100% of electric retail sales to customers to reduce carbon emissions and reduce the impacts of climate change. To achieve these goals, gigawatts (GW) of new renewable resources are being added to the grid annually [1]. Here is presented an innovative grid-tied energy storage inverter that will enable greater integration of renewable energy sources.
