Business Model Innovation in the Age of Twin Transition: Evidence from an Energy Company
摘要
The twin transition (digital and green) arises as a challenging issue recalling the attention of scholars from different fields. This is due to the multifaced nature of the transition that combines technological know-how (digital technologies and green technologies) managerial issues, and social aspects. Focusing on the business perspective, the twin transition puts firms in front of the challenge of creating sustainable value by reconfiguring their strategic, organizational, and operational models by adopting digital and green technologies. Despite the actuality of the topic, the meaning of twin transition from a business perspective as well as its implications on business models is still far from the full comprehension and calls for theoretical and empirical contributions. Aimed to contribute to the advancement of the debate on these aspects of the twin transition, the paper presents the empirical evidence of a single case study related to a multi-business company operating in the energy sector and built on data collected through interviews with key informants and integrated with official reports and online documents. Findings highlight elements of the company’s business model in terms of value proposition, core actions and resources, and contextual features enabling both digital and green transition. Implications arise for theory in terms of a major understanding of the meaning of value proposition, and drivers for value creation. From a practical point of view, the study offers a multidimensional framework twin transition.
