The subject of scientific interest in this article are the initiatives of two Roma organizations based in Poland, the purpose of which and the Foundation of their statutory activity are activities for the integration of Roma, reducing the effects of their exclusion and creating conditions for coexistence in the Polish cultural environment free from negative attitudes, such as discrimination, intolerance or even cultural conflict. The research undertaken in the article aims to identify and assess the effectiveness of activities for the Roma undertaken by “the Foundation Towards Dialogue” and the “Central Council of the Roma in Poland” and to describe initiatives aimed at reducing or eliminating negative phenomena at the crossroads of cultures. The consequence of presenting these activities and the specificity of the surveyed organizations is the identification of existing and emerging barriers at the level of relations with Poles and the indication of directions for further actions to improve the situation of the Roma in Poland—a country that is still characterized by cultural homogeneity and a relative aversion to foreign cultures, resulting in a high level of social (ethnic) distance. The result of the adopted goal is a research problem, the essence of which is the question about the specificity and effectiveness of the activities of both organizations to improve the situation of the Roma in Poland. The research is based on a qualitative research perspective and is based mainly on non-reactive methods, such as passive and participant observation, source analysis, comparative analysis, and, in some areas, historical analysis. The theoretical basis of the research is the theory of othering, which results in the social exclusion of the Roma and negative attitudes towards this ethnic group from Poles.

摘要
