Parametric Design as a Tool for Mass Housing Development in Ethiopia

The exploratory research takes into account prefab as a potential solution for mass-scale housing production. Condominium projects have received mixed reactions from both the public and professionals in Ethiopia. This paper aims to evaluate the aspects of parametric design that can help in the cost reduction process of construction, mainly through prefabrication techniques. The paper evaluates the computational techniques that will be most relevant in the process of cost reduction in mass housing like condominium. The paper proposes a concept model under which the digitalization process will be done through use of computer software such as Rhino and Grasshopper with various plugins. The outcome is a prototype which will establish the feasibility as well as workability of the model.
