Enabling Circular Education Around International Alumni

This chapter delves into a fascinating case study centered around the international network at UCL, showcasing how a community of over 900 graduates has become a powerful force for both academia and the private companies. These connections and collaboration have fostered success, stood as a beacon of circular education, and overall cover four of the five cycles. In particular, this chapter sheds more light on the blue cycle and the dynamics through which our graduates contribute back to academia, making a significant impact on future generations of sustainability cycles. The journey began when Professor Ben Croxford, who has a background in urban air quality research, transitioned from a post-doctoral researcher to the course director of the MSc Environmental Design and Engineering. Recognizing the need for a structured alumni network, he initiated the creation of an exclusive, surprise-bonus network that now spans the entire globe. The network, initially managed through a simple Excel spreadsheet, has grown over the years, evolving into a robust system and offering alumni a platform to connect, share insights, and potentially collaborate on sustainability-related topics.
