Introduction—In the Eye of the Storm: For a Sociopolitical Turn in Science Education to Build Post-pandemic Worlds

  • Cristiano B. Moura

摘要

In this introductory chapter, I aim to provide general perspectives about the central theme of this book. I begin by briefly reviewing the science education literature on perspectives during the COVID-19 pandemic about how this crisis impacted science education. In this review, I emphasize those works that stress sociopolitical perspectives for science education, next defining what a sociopolitical turn in the field might entail, or, more specifically, how authors who cling to such a turn have been fixing its meaning and envisioning the future of research and practice under this “umbrella” definition. In doing this, I call attention to ontologies as a dimension of justice-centred work in science education, if one wants to multiply the possible worlds inside our world. I explore how this connects with and gives a broader perspective on the sociopolitical turn in science education. Finally, I present the chapters and book organization.
