Critical Analysis of Information on Pasteurisation by High School Biology Students
摘要
This chapter uses the skill of critical analysis of information to help secondary school students justify a scientifically based claim present in our daily lives, such as the case of pasteurisation. A learning activity was implemented with 21 students aged 15–16 years in the subject of biology in a private school. The students had to look for evidence on the Internet to support this claim and be aware of the need to evaluate the sources they would use. This activity aims to develop the critical thinking dimension of critical analysis of information, in this case, the information that appears on the Internet, and, on the other hand, to raise awareness and encourage students to use the mobile device to meet the objective adequately. To determine the impact of this learning activity, the quality of the references used by the students was analysed and categorised. The results show an improvement in the level of reliability of the sources used by the students after training them in the credibility and reliability of Internet sources.
