In this study, we developed three forms of interactive displays showcasing the puppet characters in Taiwanese Glove Puppet Theater (Budaixi). We employed gaze interfaces to enhance viewer engagement and guide them to focus on the detailed artistry of puppet costume design. Integrated into interactive projection installations and showcased across three exhibitions, these interactive display installations offered a novel experience of appraising the elements of traditional performance art. Through the eye-tracking device, visitors’ eye movement data recorded highlighted areas of interest on the puppet costumes displayed in the exhibition venues. Comparing the interactive and static displays, the results showed a higher audience engagement to explore Budaixi artifacts. Our implementation of gaze interface technology in the exhibition field can be a powerful tool for enhancing audience engagement in exhibition design, as well as revealing visitor interests and areas of focus.
