When you hear the term explosion protection, everyone thinks of some kind of explosives-related activity. However, there are substances (dusts, gases, vapors, mists) that are not explosives, but are capable of triggering detonations under certain conditions. In critical infrastructure operations, especially in factories, plants, production lines, conditions and ignition sources can develop that can trigger explosions in the area. Unfortunately, there are a number of examples which, following investigations into accidents which have already occurred, most of which have resulted in fatalities, draw attention to these problem areas. Unfortunately, professionals working in the defence sector must now also take into account the fact that, in the case of deliberate damage or disturbance, they must not only keep dangerous materials (such as explosives) away from the area concerned, but also seemingly harmless materials such as combustible dusts, gases or vapors.
