Navigation for People with Low Vision Using Machine Learning
摘要
The term visually impaired is usually used to refer to a person who has completely lost their eyesight. However, various visual impairments exist depending on the degree of poor vision. People with low vision do not receive as many benefits as blind people because they can see a little bit in front of them. The digital service for them is very lacking. Our project is a navigation system using smartphones and cameras for people with low vision. We conducted a SWOT analysis of the pros and cons of many existing applications and directly collected opinions from people with low vision disabilities. It is the same as a general navigation system. But features settings through voice. Additionally, it uses an object recognition algorithm with machine learning to detect obstacles and traffic lights and provides voice guidance. For people with low vision can see to some extent, we tried to use these characteristics to help through the adoption of simple yet recognizable images and UI/UX production. In particular, in a world made up of complex and diverse colors, 3D modeled images in a simple, yet characteristic form were reconstructed in AR format to enable intuitive recognition for users. In addition, a simple sensor board using an infrared sensor was added, which was produced in an add-on form to help recognize more detailed obstacles. We hope that through this project, there will be various developments such as reduction of travel time, prevention of contact accidents, services for the socially dis-advantaged, and welfare for the disabled.
