Investigating the Relationship between Anthropomorphic Expressions and Preferences Based on Kansei Design
摘要
A good example of anthropomorphism is an animated movie and a toy for children, and it is spread into a product design and a robot field. That means the value of anthropomorphism is needed for not only children but also adults. Anthropomorphism has positive effects, but adverse effects have also been reported in various research. However, only a few studies still discuss the conditions of them. Therefore, this study aims to clarify the relationship between expression and preference for product designs that incorporate anthropomorphic expressions based on the viewpoint of Kansei Design. The participants were shown 45 stimulus images of anthropomorphic product designs evaluated their preference for each stimulus image and answered the reasons freely. After that, the selected participants’ answers were analyzed using the Text Mining Method. We could identify and separate these stimuli rated as preferences, likes, and dislikes. In addition, we clarified the preferred impressions of anthropomorphic expression in design were linked with words such as “Cute,” “Funny,” “Human-like,” and “Friendly.” Whereas the impression of dislike was linked with words such as “Creepy,” “Grotesque,” and “Realistic,” and the parts of our body such as “Face” and “Teeth.” The results suggested that the participants preferred the anthropomorphic designs, which incorporated the whole body of a human being as an anthropomorphic feature with cute, and charming, whereas they disliked the realistic and anthropomorphic designs incorporating only human body parts due to uncomfortable feelings. Through this study, we clarified the tendency and characteristics of preference product designs with incorporated anthropomorphism.
