Sexually Transmitted Infections
摘要
Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in a broader sense comprise bacterial (syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, ulcus molle), viral (HIV/AIDS, genital herpes, condylomas (HPV), and hepatitis B), and parasitic trichomoniasis, pediculosis, and scabies infections, which are spread predominantly by unprotected sexual contact and which fortunately can be treated in most cases. If not treated properly, STIs can lead to long-term illnesses, infertility, and additional spread with socioeconomic consequences. Protective measures, such as condoms, can reduce the risk of contracting an STI. According to the WHO there are almost 400 million people every year who suffer from either syphilis, chlamydia, gonorrhea, or trichomoniasis, and the incidence is increasing.
