The Chinese government places significant emphasis on mitigating climate change. It has undertaken a range of policies, measures, and initiatives to tackle climate change, actively engaging in global climate governance. Chinese universities, however, are not just focusing on one aspect of this complex issue. They are widely recognized as having crucial responsibilities in adapting to and mitigating climate change. Some universities have introduced master’s and doctoral programmes focused on sustainable development to educate professionals in this field. They have established research institutions focused on sustainable development. They have collaborated with international platforms. They have spearhead China’s higher education sector to support domestic and global highlevel policies addressing climate change. These initiatives include focusing on scientific research, talent development, and international interactions relevant to climate change challenges. The chapter aims to analyse the development process, policy backdrop, practical activities, and outcomes of Chinese universities’ reactions to climate change, as well as identify future paths. This study is mainly based on a literature review and a systematic examination of pertinent Chinese policy documents.
