In this edited volume, authors from a wide variety of countries and world regions undertook a systematic investigation of national higher education (HE) policies and institutional responses with respect to HE and Climate Change (CC) mitigation. The volume featured a total of nine country cases: Brazil, China, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Italy, Ireland, Poland, Switzerland, and the UK. The country studies focused especially on the nexus between national HE policy and the responses and activities of HE institutions and their internal actors, sometimes in the absence of such policy framework. The rich empirical country cases provide a partial understanding, but they nonetheless reveal important aspects of the realities underpinning the national/local/global social systems in which CC mitigation occurs, both in rhetoric (symbolic and discursive) and practical (legislative, financial, and strategic) terms. In this final chapter we present some of the key insights emanating from the cases and reflect on the implications for policy and research going forward.
