The country generates 150,847 metric tonnes of solid waste daily, which is expected to rise further due to urbanization and lifestyle changes. Improper landfilling, untreated dumping, or burning of waste contribute to public health and environmental issues. To address this, an integrated solid waste management system that considers the role of entrepreneurs and the informal sector is essential. Waste start-ups can offer eco-friendly solutions and technology that can mitigate the negative environmental consequences of waste accumulation. These systems integrate seamlessly with existing SWM systems, enhancing the value of waste. This chapter examines the innovative efforts of start-ups in addressing waste management and contributing to a more environmentally friendly future, highlighting their efforts in overcoming obstacles, utilizing technology, and encouraging community involvement.
