Generative AI has emerged as a disruptive technology with the potential to revolutionize many industries, including education. For this purpose, this research aims to summarize the use of generative AI in different contexts within the education sector, specifically examining whether it has been applied in the student decision-making process. Through a systematic literature review, 28 studies were explored, revealing a spectrum of solutions and proposals for the integration of this new technology into the education sector, alongside the identification of numerous challenges. The review concludes that generative AI holds the potential to enhance education in several ways, but it is crucial to acknowledge and address the challenges before achieving full integration. Additionally, the review highlights that the exploration of applying generative AI in students’ decision-making purposes is an area yet to be thoroughly investigated.
