Pancreatic resection is a common treatment for both benign and malignant conditions affecting the pancreas. With the rise of multi-modal therapy and neoadjuvant chemotherapy for pancreatic adenocarcinoma, survival following these resections has increased (Moore, J Gastrointest Surg. 25:2317–2327, 2021). While the perioperative surgical complications have long been appreciated (i.e., pancreatic leak, bleeding, delayed gastric emptying, etc.), there is a growing recognition that these procedures are associated with long-term issues of pancreatic exocrine and endocrine insufficiency. These long-term sequelae have a dramatic impact on the quality of life of patients and deserve specific attention.

摘要
