This chapter begins with an examination of the embryonic development of both the duodenum and pancreas. Anatomic relationships are then described with a special focus on ductal anatomy, vasculature, and lymph node stations. A comprehensive description of anatomic variants that result in clinically significant pathologies, such as pancreas divisum, pancreatic hypoplasia, and duplication cysts follow. Finally, the mechanical, exocrine, and endocrine physiologies of the duodenum and pancreas are disentangled.

摘要

This chapter begins with an examination of the embryonic development of both the duodenum and pancreas. Anatomic relationships are then described with a special focus on ductal anatomy, vasculature, and lymph node stations. A comprehensive description of anatomic variants that result in clinically significant pathologies, such as pancreas divisum, pancreatic hypoplasia, and duplication cysts follow. Finally, the mechanical, exocrine, and endocrine physiologies of the duodenum and pancreas are disentangled.
