The Undecided Frontier

A border is not just a boundary that separates but also a space of uncertainty between two territories or two opposing worldviews. It need for the mediator to explore this territory, or “gray zone,” and locate the obstacles to dialogue: cultural diversity, ignorance of the other’s reality, the weight of prejudice, appeal to different logics, etc. It need to restore a positive in-between. This diversity of borders will be examined through three concrete examples drawn from African traditional culture, Japan, and relations between Russia and the West.
