We present an original statistical model for assessing the risk of incurring in criminal conducts among young people in Mexico. It is based on supervised classification and reduction of dimensionality. The information is taken from a statistical survey with national coverage by the National Institute of Statistics in Mexico. Men and women are analyzed separately. The main contribution of this work is a classification criterion that expresses risk as a probability given some variables related to each person’s lifestyle. The resulting model is accurate, informative, and interpretable.

摘要

We present an original statistical model for assessing the risk of incurring in criminal conducts among young people in Mexico. It is based on supervised classification and reduction of dimensionality. The information is taken from a statistical survey with national coverage by the National Institute of Statistics in Mexico. Men and women are analyzed separately. The main contribution of this work is a classification criterion that expresses risk as a probability given some variables related to each person’s lifestyle. The resulting model is accurate, informative, and interpretable.
