Positive Computing Through Images and Scents
摘要
This paper experimentally clarifies the combined effects of scents and images to make people positive. We evaluate the impact of a combination of both scents and images on mood through questionnaires, heart rate, and pupil size. We use flower and wood scents, while the images are chosen to match the impressions of the respective scents. The experimental results show that all materials decreased negative moods from the mood evaluation questionnaire. The image material and the material combining scents and images increase positive moods more than the scent material. The mood changes induced by scent materials were more significant in female than in male. Furthermore, the matched materials combining scents and images are more effective. All materials show the potential to reduce heart rate and facilitate relaxation.
