The lymphatic system is distributed throughout the human body, with a few exceptions, such as the bone marrow and cartilage. The primary function of this system is to return fluid extravasated from blood capillaries into the interstitial region. Still, it also has a crucial role in carrying pathogens to lymph nodes, initiating an immunological chain reaction. Regarding the lymphatic system of the hand, Bonamy et al. described the deep lymphatic vessels of the upper limb in 1847 (Ma et al. 2019). However, the limitations of the mercury infusion technique precluded a detailed anatomical description at that time. As methods became more sophisticated over the decades, better assessment and understanding of the lymphatics of the upper limb became possible.
