Hypotension is a common postoperative complication in the perianesthesia setting and contributes to increased patient morbidity and mortality rates. An understanding of the etiologies, diagnosis, and treatment of this complication is critical to successful treatment of the patient. Management is based upon likely cause(s). As with any postoperative concern, always consider other etiologies that may be contributing to the cause of hypotension, such as preexisting conditions.
