This chapter offers an overview of cardiac trauma, which we divide into penetrating and blunt trauma. In addressing a patient with cardiac trauma on the oral boards, as in life, it is imperative that assessment and treatment are performed rapidly and accurately and that the potential for cardiac injury is addressed early to optimize outcomes. We will briefly review trauma bay course and diagnostic workup, as well as the sometimes simultaneous surgical treatment related to cardiac injury.
