On the Optimization of the Picking of Goods-on-Hangers in Slick Rail Systems
摘要
We consider optimization problems from an industrial use case, arising in the management of automated slick rail systems. These are used for sorting and picking high quality clothes in dedicated distribution centers. We discuss the industrial context and its practical setting, and we focus on the option of improving the system efficiency by algorithms more than by additional hardware. We show that the system allows for an elegant modeling in terms of routing problems on graphs having a very specific structure. As a main methodological result, we propose polynomial time exact resolution algorithms for a few relevant special cases, combining the conveyor layouts and the sorting requirements.
