Food Insecurity

  • Sonya Sharififard

摘要

In rural areas, factors such as limited access to grocery stores, transportation challenges, and economic hardships contribute to higher rates of food insecurity. These regions often lack adequate infrastructure and resources, resulting in food deserts where nutritious options are scarce. Conversely, urban areas, while more likely to have food outlets, experience food insecurity due to high living costs, income inequality, and systemic barriers affecting marginalized populations. This divide highlights the complex interplay between geography and access to food, emphasizing the need for targeted interventions. Addressing food insecurity requires a nuanced understanding of these disparities, as well as collaborative efforts to ensure equitable access to healthy food for all communities. The analysis suggests that current food pantries do not support macronutrient content. Food retailers surrounding college campuses also do not adequately support the dietary needs of students and the broader community. Additional consideration about the food source and where food comes from is essential for consumer behavior and neighborhood inclusivity in higher education and beyond.
