Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID)
摘要
Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is defined as an inflammation of the fallopian tubes and ovaries. In the majority of instances, this condition is initiated by bacteria originating from the lower genital tract, which gain access to the abdominal cavity, subsequently infecting the uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries. The most prevalent pathogens identified are Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae, although other microorganisms from the vaginal flora may also contribute to the infection. The diagnosis of PID poses challenges due to the variability and non-specific nature of the symptoms. Diagnostic procedures typically include physical examination, laboratory tests, imaging, and laparoscopy. Treatment usually consists of antibiotic therapy, while severe cases may necessitate surgical intervention. Preventative strategies focus on promoting sexual hygiene, facilitating early detection of lower genital tract infections, and encouraging consistent condom use. Complications arising from PID can include infertility, ectopic pregnancy, and chronic pelvic or upper abdominal pain.
