Nonvenereal treponematoses, encompassing framboesia, endemic syphilis, and pinta, are bacterial infections predominantly found in developing countries and are caused by Treponema spp. These illnesses are primarily transmitted through direct skin contact, with transmission through infected objects occurring less frequently. The clinical manifestations of these infections vary and may progress from initial skin lesions to severe, late-stage bone and skin damage. Diagnosis is typically clinical, supported by serologic tests that share similarities with, but lack specificity for, syphilis. Treatment is primarily conducted with penicillin, whereas azithromycin is utilized as an alternative option. Preventive strategies encompass the treatment of all close contacts to mitigate the transmission of disease.
