Immunization is a highly cost-effective public health strategy, significantly contributing to the decline in the Under-5 Mortality Rate (U5MR). The efficacy of an immunization program hinges on a system that prevents thermal damage to vaccines during transit and storage. This system, which maintains vaccines within a recommended temperature range from production to administration, is known as the cold chain. This research proposes an Information and Communication Technology (ICT)-based solution to effectively manage the intricate Vaccine Cold Chain Distribution Network. A cold chain management system with a dedicated cloud-based temperature monitoring system has been developed. It employs remote Internet of Things (IoT) sensors to transmit real-time temperature data to a central hub, supporting various industry-standard IoT protocols and communication channels. The monitoring devices measure both freezer and room temperatures, uploading this data to the cloud every minute. The temperature profile is then logged in a cloud file. This system allows for the retrieval of detailed information through multiple views. Experimental results indicate that the prototype performs well in a real-time setting, suggesting it can be transformed into embedded systems. Consequently, the proposed cold chain management system could be implemented to oversee the cold chain across the entire state of Tamil Nadu.

摘要
