The term budding refers to the formation of a bud that spontaneously arises due to the grouping and assembly of viral proteins at the cell membrane. The viral bud forms at the cell membrane and individualizes to be finally released from the cell. During this mechanism, the viral capsid will be surrounded by a portion of the cell’s plasma membrane, which then becomes the viral envelope.
