Panel 16. Some viruses have capsids with mixed symmetry. They possess an icosahedral head and a tail with helical symmetry. However, these are quite particular viruses, as they are specific to the bacterial world. These viruses, called bacteriophages (literally “bacteria eaters”), are thus unable to multiply on their own and can only do so within a bacterium.
