Panel 11. Rotaviruses are also naked viruses, with a capsid about 1/10000th of a millimeter. Their genome is made up of several segments of RNA, present in this capsid. When the virus infects a cell, it hijacks the cellular machinery to make the cell synthesize its own proteins that will constitute this capsid as well as the viral enzyme that will replicate the different segments of RNA making up the viral genome. All these segments (11 in total) are incorporated into each new capsid formed.
