Turbulence and Turbulent Viscosity
摘要
This chapter introduces the fundamental concepts related to the state of turbulent motion in a fluid. The peculiar characteristics of turbulence are described and the dimensionless Reynolds number, which governs the transition from a state of laminar motion to a turbulent one, is analysed. The concept of turbulent (eddy) viscosity, of fundamental importance in meteorological and oceanographic applications, is also introduced.
