In this chapter, we derive the Coriolis force and determine the Coriolis parameter, which expresses the effect of the rotation of the reference frame on a plane tangent to the Earth's surface. After introducing the Rossby and Ekman dimensionless numbers, of great significance in fluid dynamics in rotating reference frames, we analyse the motions governed by the geostrophic balance.

摘要
