The Development of Augmented and Mixed Reality in Orthopaedic Surgery: A Review of Its Evolving Use in the Healthcare Industry
摘要
Orthopaedic surgery is one of the largest surgical specialties with a massive global market. Augmented Reality (AR) and Mixed Reality (MR) has slowly been introduced, with an exponential increase in its use in this field in recent years. We performed a systematic review of the literature to investigate how Augmented and Mixed reality is being used within orthopaedic surgery, in several areas including planning, training and performing surgery, and the impact this has had on patient care. We review the potential advantages of these tools, along with the limitations to date, and discuss the potential future directions of new technology in this multi-billion dollar healthcare industry.
