Based on the preceding experimental studies on enigmatic nanoscale light field, a tentative basic concept of dressed photon (DP) was formulated around 1990s, and since then, the study on DP has been accelerated to accomplish fruitful optical engineering outcomes so far explained in the previous Chaps. 1 – 4 . Needless to say, the initial effort of forming a theoretical model of DP was based on a trial-and-error approach. It was not until 2017 that a quite novel off-shell approach in quatum field theory (QFT) was employed to construct a heuristic model of DP. Chaps. 5 – 10 , which constitute the latter half of this book, are reserved to explain the cutting edge of those novel theoretical studies on DP. In order to understand new studies, some pieces of interdisciplinary knowledge are required, so that we begin this introductory chapter with a couple of simple comments on off-shell quantum field and on the other prerequisite knowledge on field dynamics.

摘要
