Settlement and Load-Sharing Response of Piled-Raft Foundation in Cohesionless Soil
摘要
The performance of the piled raft foundation is dependent upon complex soil–pile–raft interactions and several factors such as raft, pile, and soil properties, spacing between piles, raft pile area ratio, and stiffness ratio of the pile, raft, and soil. In the present study, the load settlement and load-sharing performance of piled raft foundations in cohesionless soil subjected to uniform vertical loadings are presented through experimental and three-dimensional finite element-based numerical analysis. The axial strain distribution along the pile length has been evaluated. The experimental investigation is conducted through a scaled-down model of piled raft foundation. The numerical model has been validated with the experimental study. The nonlinear variation of complex pile–pile and pile–raft interaction has been discussed through the experimental and numerical investigations of the piled raft foundations. The influence of the slenderness ratio of pile and pile group area on load-sharing and settlement performance of piled raft foundations has been presented. The load-sharing estimated from the experimental study has been compared with different load-sharing models. The outcomes of the present study will be beneficial in developing the load-sharing model for evaluating settlement and the nonlinear load-sharing between pile and raft in a piled raft foundation. The paper describes the experimental procedure, numerical modeling procedure, material properties of soil, pile, and raft, the parameters adopted in the analysis, and the results.
