Risk Management in Piling Contracts
摘要
The piling industry has undergone a sea of changes with high-capacity piles, and large-diameter drilling rigs, sophisticated equipment, monitoring tools, etc. have started dominating the market. But unprecedented geotechnical variations during execution can contribute to delays in the project completion, and in many cases end up in legal complications like arbitration. It is seen from the literature that very little amount of research work addresses the risks and risk management aspects involved in the geotechnical, in particular, large piling projects. This particular presentation discusses the facts observed by the author during his involvement in certain arbitration cases. These cases are exclusively related to piling projects, wherein the disputes arose for many or certain specific reasons. The conclusion provides certain remedial measures for effective risk management, particularly in piling projects.
