The precise estimation of Soil Resistance to Driving (SRD) for pile foundations is a major pre-requisite for the installation of piles in offshore. This remains the major factor to evaluate the suitability of a hammer in installation. The steel pipe piles used as the foundation in offshore platforms show resistance to driving either by considering coring condition or plugged condition. Usually, the practitioners consider plugged condition as the governing criteria to assess the drivability of hammer to the target penetration. In this study, the effect of formation of “Cookie cutter” during coring condition is presented. In coring condition, it is expected that the pile has inside soil resistance. This is because the soil remains in its location and does not move with the pile. This phenomenon will be exhibited until the certain penetration in competent soil layers where the effective stresses reduce resulting in a further drop in internal skin resistance and finally plug condition is achieved. The study presents an approximate method of considering this phenomenon to evaluate SRDs for coring condition in the Wave Equation Analysis for Pile driving (WEAP) framework with a stratified ground model from the Middle East. Results suggest that the coring condition from the proposed methodology yields relatively higher SRDs as compared to the coring condition and is considered to evaluate maximum compressive stresses and required blow counts to achieve target penetration.
