Cultural Integration in Mergers and Acquisitions: The Role of Translation in Facilitating Organizational Alignment

This article proposes that cross-cultural activities are critical to an organization’s cross-border mergers and acquisitions (M&A). This paper also develops a framework and practical tools for organizations to achieve successful cultural integration. It also identifies challenges and success factors in mergers and acquisitions involving different cultures. This article first draws attention to the importance of cultural M&A arrangements. This article focuses on the pharmaceutical industry and provides case studies from Disney and Pixar. At the end of the case study, use the Culture Audit Checklist to better understand the impact of cultural differences. It then assesses the organization’s need to balance its culture, identifies cultural dimensions and identifies where operational gaps exist. Different business environments are then discussed, first in Western countries, then in the cultural influence of the Asia–Pacific region, and finally in Middle Eastern countries. The next phase of research is planned to involve multi-level investigations of individuals, businesses and the wider environment. Second, a review of the barriers the organization may face and finally the development of a framework of targeted activities to achieve cultural integration success. In this section, the acquiring company is advised to achieve its goals and ambitions and create an environment in which the transaction can proceed successfully. This document contains suggestions for language translation. There are different methods of translation. Therefore, one of the recommendations is to develop a translation plan, use technology, and ask employees to develop a supportive organizational culture that values translation services. This recommendation will express the importance of translation services at the organizational level.
