Within the field of Translation Studies, there exists a branch known as audiovisual translation. This involves the conversion of diverse and complex texts, which are often multimedia in nature, into a different language and/or cultural context. One particular sub-branch of audiovisual translation, revoicing, encompasses several techniques for oral language translation, such as narration, free commentary, simultaneous interpreting, audio description, voice-over, and lip-synchronized dubbing. Our investigation of this subject will primarily focus on a descriptive-qualitative analysis, which will highlight the value and influence of audiovisual translation within the field of Translation Studies. The dubbed product’s commercial success may be at risk if attempts to maintain authenticity through naturalizing cultural references draw attention to the foreign language and culture. The dialogue’s revoicing allows for an easy domestication of the original text, with functional equivalents replacing source cultural references in the target viewer’s cognitive environment.
